Bridgeport. Conn. -- Live Christmas trees may bring more than a fresh evergreen scent to U. S homes during the holidays; they may bring allergy symptoms a study showed. The study examined the relationship between mold growth on live Christmas trees and poor indoor air quality. WebMD com reported. "As mold growth is common in the area surrounding outdoor foliage we hypothesized that the presence of a live Christmas tree may be contributing to indoor mold," said researcher John Santilli a mold specialist practicing in Connecticut. Researchers measured mold counts during a two-week period in a home with a live Christmas tree. For the first three days counts remained at 800 spores per cubic meter of air slightly above normal. It rose to 5,000 spores per cubic meter by day 14 when the tree was removed. "Our study demonstrates that a live Christmas tree can be a significant source of mold spores," Santilli said. He recommended families with allergies particularly mold allergies keep live Christmas tree for only a few days at most. The study was presented recently at The American College of Allergy. "Lowe?s refuses to call them ?Christmas trees,? chooses to call ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-06 22:03:52

From the American Family Association. In an effort to forbid the use of the term “Christmas channelise,” Lowe’s has renamed their Christmas trees and are now calling them “Family trees.” In their pass 2007 catalog containing 56 pages of Christmas gifts. Lowe’s advertises hundreds of enable items including scores of “Family trees.” In fact the evince “Christmas” only appears two times in the entire holiday compile. The ads mentioning “Christmas cover only 12 square inches of the 5236 square inches available. Lowe’s change surface has one of their Family trees turned upside down on a stand. We are not sure what the significance of that is. Lowe’s evidently did not want to offend any non-Christians therefore they replaced “Christmas channelise” with “Family tree.” Of cover if Christians are offended that is evidently ok. An on-line search of Lowe’s does reference some “Christmas” items. In fact a word search of their Web site gives the exact same number 174 of the word “Christmas” as it does the evince “holiday.” Most of the items mentioning Christmas appear to use the promotional lie given by the manufacturer. Their Holiday 2007 catalog features scores of products including lights wreaths trees and yard decorations. Most populate would associate these items with Christmas but not Lowe’s! Except for two obscure references they have in mind to everything in their catalog as “holiday.” to see the front cover of the compile and a page featuring their “Family trees.” catalog ad. to Lowe’s. Ask them why they refer to their Christmas trees as “Family trees.” Forward this to your friends and family and ask them to displace the telecommunicate. Sponsor your church in our “Project Merry Christmas.” This entry was posted onNovember 13. 2007 at 6:39 pmand is filed under. You can follow any responses to this entry through the feed. I'm not sure how I feel about the ignorant assumption that only people who conform to society's "family" model of modern living deserve the joy of indoor tree husbandry but at least it's no longer the domain solely of the Christianists. On the website. Lowe's also offers (with no explanation) this lovely. I can only assume this one is the handiwork of some Bible-thumping malcontent at the company making a point about Christmas being in distress. If so that's pretty clever. The malcontent should probably get a raise. Anyway for some reason the had a problem with Lowe's heartwarming celebration of the "family" and asked supporters to create verbally to the affiliate asking what gives. Lowe's responded with an apology along with a scripted follow-up they asked AFA to post on their website which they did. Lowe’s has contacted the AFA and assures us that it is proudlycommitted to selling Christmas trees this year as it has done for morethan 60 years. The company apologized for the confusion created in its2007 holiday catalog when it headlined the summon of Christmas trees“family trees.” The error was not caught before the publication wasdistributed and Lowe’s says it is disappointed in the breakdown in itsproofing process. Lowe’s assures us that they refer to trees as Christmas trees inthis season’s television and magazine ads and in its advertisingflyers. The company says it is redoubling its efforts to proof itscatalogs in the future to prevent this issue from recurring. We appreciate Lowe’s for listening to its customers and responding appropriately to our concerns. Sometimes when I'm pressed for proofing time. I just look for the largest word on the page and make sure I got at least that one alter.
