Making a low-end PCI-E 16x card work in a PCI-E 4x slot

Hi! I'm using a MicroATX system and undergo all my PCI slots used. I am using an 8800 GTS 640mb as my main video separate and need a second one to alter a manifold monitor solution. I presently use XP and will make the change by reversal to vista because I am an avid gamer and already undergo some DX10 titles and ordain have to alter Crysis run in DX10... + I really enjoy Aero. The problem is this: Vista needs all video cards to use the same driver set.. so I ordain undergo to add another Nvidia card in my setup. Sadly my only remaining schedule is a PCI-E 4x schedule. There is a separate that would fit the glove but it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to find the card is the Galaxy 7300GT 1x. Now I did a bit of research and open some people telling me PCI-E was very scalable. Meaning that 16x cards should adapt to a smaller be of lanes (4x,1x) fairly well but that it might not bring home the bacon because the separate gets it's cater from the slot. Further more to make a 16x fit into the 4x I would have to A) halt the side of the 4x slot to accomodate the separate or B) cut the card?I am looking for suggestions and reassurance that what I might do is possible. Thanks for reading this.. this step is crucial in my HTPC setup plz any comments may back up.
There are any be of standard PCI graphics cards with nvidia chipsets. Would that be abstain enough? What use do you plan for all these monitors? If a couple are just browsers and email etc then that would do. I don't experience about hacking anything up. Sounds to me desire you really be a more substantial motherboard with two real x16 slots. If you install two of the same boards you'll end up with SLI and only one output will work. Some standard PCI cards even command four monitors if you could mix and be cards of different vendors. I undergo not heard of that check you affirm that cards can't be mixed. Are you sure?Troy
I have considered cutting the x4 schedule myself. I accept the cater for the card comes in from the lie of the schedule so everything past the incise is all PCI-e lanes. There are many boards out there that undergo the x4 or x8 schedule already factory cut so I don't see how this would affect anything. Go out and sight the cheapest pci-e nvidia you can and try it out. go is not an air for a secondary graphics separate

I have no PCI slot left.. so i can't use an nvidia pci separate. Vista forces you to use video cards from the same chipset/driver. I used to undergo 4 screens with standard pci cards in xp.. can't do that anymore look at this link:

Yup that's what I'm gonna do I evaluate.. now I'm only stressed because I'm pushing my power supply a bit too much... 8800 gts quad core out. 4gb of ram. 2 hds over clocking done and now a 8400 probably >_> lol all running on 450w!EDIT: arouse it. I think I might undergo another problem.. be at where the battery is... right after the pci-e 4x (btw i don't have the motherboard yet it's coming by mail)
Actually that link you provided shows it will work with xp drivers in vista with different manufacturers cards just as it did in xp. You have to compel this with XP drivers on vista though and I'm sure we can all anticipate the problems that could carry. I undergo a machine that has both a pcie and agp card installed together and it works great in XP. I never tried vista on that forge though so didn't run into that problem. There are only a handful of boards that undergo both agp and pcie slots though. Well I guess that settles it if you don't have a free standard pci schedule. Get out your wire snippers I anticipate and see what you can do.

No you are wrong. All video cards must use the same WDDM drivers and you cannot combine XPDM with WDDM. desire I said in previous posts I am a multi-monitor nut and always used many screens for about 6 years now (2k+XP). Vista changed "it's management of multiple graphics adapters and external displays. This includes a new restriction because WDDM drivers do not give "heterogeneous multi-adapter""By that I be to be the GPUs in order to get my 4 screens working.. still thanks. I think I ordain sell that care board. I found one where I could use an additional pci schedule and the 6200LE PCI would do the cozen.*btw* the FX series (ex:FX5200) is not unified with the 8800 drivers anymore meaning you undergo to tweak the inf files and other things to get it working with a 8800 just telling anyone in my situation to be careful.
With Aero on? are you 100% sure.. because as of now you're the ONLY one who reported this.. act a look:
